Limited on its geographic condition, sea-cargo is the major trading channel in Taiwan. Taiwan has three international seaports including Kaohsiung, Taichung and Keelung along the western coast. Kaohsiung port is ranked top 5 international ports in the world currently. Taiwan has a strategy plan to develop its port to become the HUB port system of Central Asia and success in this venture will create a major increase in the demand for port service. In 1992, MAA was invited by Institute of Transportation under Ministry of Transportation and Communication to undertake “Kaohsiung International Port Overall Development Project”. Purpose of the project is to integrate Taiwan Port System Policy on aspects of transportation, environment, engineering, financial and project management etc. for the target year of 2020. MAA are also responsible for several projects in Keelung Harbor, Laem Chabang Deep Sea Port of Thailand and Suva Port of Fiji. Particularly, MAA was engaged to design and upgrade the Surveillance System and Maritime Information Center for Keelung Harbor, which when built, will be the prototype system for all other ports in Taiwan.
